Couple points here. There is a one-time payment of $255 that can be made when you die if you have worked long enough. This payment can be made only to your spouse or minor children if they meet certain requirements.

For continuing survivor benefits, only certain survivors are eligible. This includes elderly (60+) widows or widowers, surviving spouses caring for children younger than 16, your children under 18 or 19, and surviving dependent parents.
