My child's benefits

My son's father (we were never married) is now collecting SS for a mental health disability. i am the primary parent of our son. Does my son get a seperate check from SS, and is it issued to me or to his father?

is likely your child will receive a benefit. If you have custody, it's likely
you can serve as the representative payee for the child.

To get benefits, a child must have a parent who is disabled or retired and entitled to Social Security benefits.

The child also must be unmarried and younger than age 19.
