waiting

I have been waiting for mine to be approved since july of 2010. WE have lost just about everything we own. Had to move in with my mother in law as well. My husband can't work due to having COPD & back problems. and I can't work due to mental, back, asthma, and problems from scare tissue from cancer. We have been to court for this back in Jan of 2012. still waiting for the judge to sign off on it so I can find out the ruleing on my case. How long does it take to sign a piece of paper though? Is it that hard? I can't afford to pay for doctors right now cause of no money. and am suppose to be seeing 2 specialist on top of everything else.

If you have applied for Social Security benefits, you can check the status of your application online.

The application status will show you:

  • when your application was received
  • if additional documents were requested
  • the address of the office that is processing you application
  • if a decision has been made

If you prefer, or if you are unable to check the status of your application online, you can:

  • Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Contact your local Social Security office

If you have an attorney working on your case, make him or her responsible for following up often with SSA to get an answer. If you are approved, the attorney can get paid up to $6000, more in some cases, and that money comes out of your check.
