husband allowed to submit name change paperwork??

If I fill out and sign the paperwork requesting my name to be changed to my husband's last name, can he take that to the local SS office along with my driver's license to complete the process? The hours are so inconvenient; however, as a professional in a new job I would prefer to have my name changed legally sooner rather than later.

Please contact your local Social Security office directly for this. I couldn't find an answer to this particular case.

When applying for a NEW Social Security card, if you are age 12 or older and have never received a Social Security number, you must apply in person.

There's also an indication that name change to some extent depends on state law, so the in-person requirement may vary among the states.

Finally, note you can mail in your completed application and documents, but all documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. Any documents you mail will be returned to you along with a receipt.
