I am 16 and my dad passed away 2 years ago but he was a self employed musician , but has been disabled for the last 20 years of his life. Am I eligible for the benefits or no?

I recommend contacting Social Security directly for your case.

There certainly is a chance you may qualify for survivor benefits. To qualify for survivor benefits, you need fewer years of work if you pass away at a younger age. But no one needs more than 10 years of work to be eligible for any Social Security benefit.

Under a special rule, if your father worked for only one and one-half years in the three years just before your death, benefits can be paid to you and your mother if she is is caring for you.

Was your father receiving Social Security disability benefits? I couldn't find documentation on this, but if your father was receiving Social Security disability, you may qualify for survivor benefits even if he didn't work long enough to qualify for survivor benefits (as an able-bodied person).
