I have been trying to reach you since last friday 7/16/10 your lines are busy or automated answers and hangs up on me this is the worst worst place of business ive ever seen how can you call yourselves public servants then on 7/22/10 i was on hold at 12:45 until 1:05 then you hung up on me

Never answer phones. Trying to let them know I can't make my appointment for today and want to reschedule. Wonder maybe it doesn't bother them when people just don't show up without "seeming" to contact the office to show the courtesy of letting them know we can't make an appointment. Duh.

SSA reports their lines are busiest early in the week and early in the month so, if your business can wait, it's best to call at other times.

i've been trying to call them for three days. they never answer their phones. this past time i was on hold for 28 minutes and no one ever came on line. this is later in the month and later in the week, so there is no excuse.

I must be patient, I was on hold 50 minutes yesterday with no response, it is a staffing / management problem,I am typing with one hand due to being on hold today, 24 minutes so far. Will government health care be like this? You bet it will !!

For the past month I have tired to contact someone at this office. I have been on hold anywhere from 45 minutes to the latest 5 hours, yest 5 hours. Finally I called the 800 number and they told me to go to the office. That was a waste of my morning, since when I got their I had to sit 1hour and than the lady I needed to see could not see me. It seems like they are always interviewing but never complete the work of the people that have been waiting for help for months. I have child awaiting his case to be handled and this has been since June 2010. I never received a letter and they have yet to resend the letter. What and where do I go for help? The 800 respond people just tell me to go there, but this is gas and bridge toll that I have to pay only to get nothing accomplished.

I totally agree with you, I have called other ss office in other states and I can def get through and can get answers but the newport news office sucks on answering the phone and when they do answer, I get hung up on...worst business ever to get help when you need answers or when you can get yourself to the office in person.

I have tried calling the local office for four hours. Someone answers the phone then hangs up. Unbelievable.
I filed for disibility eighteen months ago. I have lost just about everything I own. My children have suffered. I have been through twenty + test and six hospital visits. Four surgeries and so much radiation exsposure. My case has stayed in PA for a year. I have been asked to do most of the paper work because SS claims medical offices do not respond. I have lost all my faith in government. When you call the 800 number the recording even says that some SS offices don't give their phone numbers or fax numbers. This is our government that takes money out of your every dollar earned. GOD FORGIVE OUR GOVERNMENT.

I have received a letter sayin the office has be trying to contact me for months for a interview but I never received one letter! But they can send me a letter to cut my daughters benefits! I have been trying to call for 4 days and when I get threw I'm a hold for a hour and then their phone hangs up on me! This is the worst place of business I have ever had to deal with!

I appreciate your help

My two year old daughter has cancer and I have tried with no success for months to reach the SSI office on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News VA. I cannot take her to the office with me as she has no immune system and cannot be exposed to germs in public areas. I have tried to call only to be put on hold and hung up on. I had to quit my job as a full time teacher to stay home and take care of her and we depend on her benefits. I have contacted our representative Glenn Oder, and awaiting a phone call back from his staff. We need to start contacting our representatives and letting them know whats going on in these offices. Shame on you..employees of this facility....we don't deserve to be treated this way.

Please remember that this is a Federal agency and local Delegates have no impact. If you have this much difficulty, contact your Congressman and file a complaint. You WILL get a call back. Try going on line to SSA.gov and complete forms electronically...or get a disability representative.

Been on the phone for two hours and no one answer just get wait on the line. if you not going to answer the phone just hang up on them.

This is absolutely ridiculous and absurd on the part of this particular Social Security office and its staff. I have never encountered such a lazy and unprofessional group of people in my life. Where do they get these people from the welfare line? The phone line is busy and on the off chance they do pick up they hang up or leave you on hold for an astronomical amount of time. Thank God I am meticulous in my record keeping otherwise they would have been able to get away with lying about documentation not being returned in time. One me, Newport News Social Security office zero.

I am unable to drive to a disability. I was sent a letter telling me I had an appointment to review my benefits and if I did not go in my Medicaid and SSI would be cut off. I have been calling the office non-stop over the course of a week and can never get through. I called the national number several times (after waiting on hold forever) and they said they would call into the local office and leave a message for someone to call me, but no one has. I sent a letter a week ago to the local office telling them the situation and even sending in all of the documents they requested, but they still never called me, and I just received a letter from them telling me I missed my appointment and that my benefits will be cut off--the letter did not acknowledge at all that I have left messages or sent a letter in--it was a form letter.

I am on hold as I write this with the national number again. What happens to people who have cognitive disabilities that would not allow them to navigate this awful system?

We should expect more of government agencies--not all of them are like this. A public library doesn't act like this. This organization must just have a sick culture of being unhelpful.

I have been terminated from customer service positions as well as call-center jobs. I would like to make $32k (plus great benefits) a year by picking up a phone and then simply hanging up on them. After 3 days of trying to call this office and having no one answer or simply disconnecting me, I realize you need people with my non-people skills. I am prepared to hang up on as many people as this job requires. If you are recruiting people with my non-skills, I would really like to work for you.

This office needs a serious makeover, you can never get thru on the telephone lines, you can never get a return call, you do everything they require but they do nothing with the information that is given to them.

per their instructions, i send in my income verif every 3 months, it take them over 1 yr to input in their system and then taboot...i have a 3000.00 overpayment. well if you would do your work in a timely manner this would have been prevented.

right hand does not know what the left hand is doing...u would not believe the countless hours of work that needs to be missed to take care of any matters with this office. i am on my way 11/13/2012 in an attempt to try and straighten things out again on my daughters SSI and I will promise if i get no satisfaction this time around I will be contacting my Congressman.

I have a daughter who has collected SSI since 2 years of age due to autism. she has now turned 21, works with the department of rehabilitative services to try and gain the skills she needs to become independent. She has no social skills, the inablity to cook, does not drive, has major knee problems which has required 2 surguries and they just send me a letter to tell me she is not considered disabled under adult rules.

well guess what GOVERNMENT, your determination rules need to be looked at. If i was on crack, an alcholic, pill popper, I would have no problem getting and keeping my social security.
