Is it a reguirement by law that one must apply for Medicare prior to turning age 65?

Please see this page on when to apply for Medicare.

If you are not already getting retirement benefits, you should contact us about three months before your 65th birthday to sign up for Medicare. You can sign up for Medicare even if you do not plan to retire at age 65.

OK, I'm not 'up' on these things, but I was surprised to receive a statement from Sosec stating that Medicare hospital and medical insurance will be taken out of my SSD next month. I currently have private insurance, which must now be cancelled.

I 'thought' one must 'apply' for this; I just turned 64. Please enlighten me. Thank you!

Will i be able to get Medicare 2 years after my last workday because of an injury?

I am 70 yrs old and retired collecting pension from my employer, I have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and due to the increasing costs of my medications I checked into signing up for Medicare and will be looking for a supplemental health plan.........when I called the social security office about signing up for medicare I was told since I didn't sign up at the age of 65, my medicare premiums monthly would be double because I would be penalized for the last 5 years. Is this true ? When I consulted with my employer's benefits office at my retirement I was led to believe since I had my own insurance I would not need to sign up at the age of 65........Please advise ???

i am rceiving diability benefits but didnt receive a medicare card

I'm trying to find a dentist in my area that will take my medicaid/medicare.I'm about to lose one of my front teeth.I'm in extreme pain and believe I need all my teeth pulled and dentures instead of trying to save these teeth. Can you please direct me as to where I start to find a dentist who will accept my medicaid/medicare?I live in Fort Walton Beach,Fl. and am able to travel to Pensacola,Fl.
Thank You
Debra D

I was notified that my new benefit would be $1.00 less which would be $1121.00 after the medicare deduction of $96.40,,,,then I got a social security statement saying my new benefit would be $1192.00 after the $96.40 is deducted I just got my bank statement showing a deposit of $1121.00....Is that my new benefit? What about the other Social Security statement? $1192 .or $1121. Every one that I know is getting a raise of $69.00 or $70.00. What happened to my much needed one???

Someone in the Social Security office made an error and listed my birthday in March instead of February of the same year, How can this error be corrected so all my records will coniside.

I never received any original documentation, and did not receive any original Medicare Card. I receive disability and I am 64 years old

I do not have enough work hours to collect social security on my own status, as i worked for the state when I did not have to pay into Social Security. My question is: When I collect s.s (under my husband) will I still be elligible to apply for Medicare?

if you are getting medicade and on dissabilty, and they sen d you a years back pay, can you lose medicade?
