My husband just started collecting ss disability (64 yr. old). Now I'm ready to apply for ss (also 64 yrs. old). Will my payments be based on his disability income or what he would normally be entitled to at age 64?
Thanks so much!
Retired spousal benefits for disabled worker
Benefits would be payable to you, since you're age 62 or older, unless you collect a higher Social Security benefit based on your earnings record. Note, however, the spousal benefit amount will be permanently reduced by a percentage based on the number of months up to your full retirement age. Your "full retirement age" is 66.
When your husband reaches full retirement age (66), nothing will change, except for Social Security purposes, his benefits will be called retirement benefits instead of disability benefits. He does not need to take any action.
