My wife of 23 years is filing for social security disability under my work history. We are separated and getting divorced. She is 54 and not working. I am 62 and retired. Can I check on the status of her application to see if she is receiving any benefits, if her application has been approved or if it is being appealed since this will effect any support payments.
Finding status of another's Social Security benefit
I couldn't find the source for this, but typically the SSA will only disclose benefit status to the owner of the benefits -- even if you're married to the beneficiary.
I'm not a lawyer, but I would suspect that this type of information would have to be reported accurately in the discovery process of a divorce.
