SSN told me that I would be able to apply for SS benefits when I turn 60 in July. We were married 12 years and at the time with children ages 7 & 10. They were receiving SS benefits from their Dad since he retired. Can the divorced spouse still apply for back pay for her children?
Surviving divorced spouse
Yes, sounds like you would qualify for benefits as a divorced surviving spouse, assuming you did not remarry. Note that reduced benefits are available at age 60. You may want to defer receipt of benefits to get a higher monthly check.
I don't really understand the question regarding the children. If the father had passed away and the children were minors, they normally would qualify for survivor benefits based on the father's work record.
