I have a friend who's son is on disability and is mother is his guardian. He does not like living with his mother because of her new boyfriend, and his father works alot. He sometimes has seizures. He is close to graduating to be a massage therapist.
I have heard of places where young adults can live and have 24 hour medical asistance, and be able to thrive on there own. He deserves to have a perminate and stable home of his own at his age. I know he can become a tax paying citizen and he wants to be able to live on his own but he gets no encouragement from his mother. Because she gets the check each month, my opinion.
He lives in the Charlottesville VA ares, is there any websites I can give to the family to assist in getting him the help he wants. I know he will be happier if he can have a live he deserves.
Representative payee for person age 21
In general, for Social Security payments, the law requires most minor children and all legally incompetent adults to have payees. In all other situations, adult beneficiaries are presumed to be capable of managing benefits. So I wonder why the mother is receiving the check.
