I did not apply for Medicare when I turned 65 because the company I worked for gave me more coverage than Medicare. Now they are dumping the old provider and going with a new one that requires part A & B. When I called to apply I was told I would have to pay a $ 92 a month penalty because I didn't sign up when I turned 65 even though I had primary coverage through my employer. Why the penalty?

Even if you keep working after you turn 65, you should sign up for Medicare Part A.
