SSI cuts.

curious to hear from anyone who knows about SSI cuts, as of 6-10-11. I have been notified of an up coming cut of $40. to my SSI check. I have tried to find any across the board cuts but the only one I have seen was back in 2009. Does any one know of a sight to check or how to find out what might be coming up. I have checked the google for current ssi cuts but nothing has presented.
thanks

I have not seen any news of across-the-board SSI cuts. I do know for the past year or two there have been no cost-of-living increases in Social Security benefits.

It's possible your cut happened because of some reported income which would reduce your SSI benefit.

Received a letter from SSA saying that the "State" has cut SSI. To my knowledge this has only affected the folks over 65 -- amount has been reduced by $15 for a total of $43 since the cuts started. Anyone know why this latest cut?

i am handicapped and i do not think its right to cut ssi from the people who needs it to i need my ssi to life month to month

i know cali is cutting ssi checks cuz they are one of the high paying states and every one is going there for the money so they are trying to cut down where the other states are and that way in call they will be able to get foodstamps so if you look at it they are just cutting the cash but you will get it back in foodstamps they are trying to make sure people use the amount that is post to be use for food is going to be used for food i think its a good thing for cali to do that they are not cutting it all at one time they are doing a lil at a time to get people ready for it

Since I moved from Massachusetts to New York, my SSI benefits actually increased by about $70.00, and I am under 65 years old. I am pretty sure it was a cost of living increase, but it could have been affected by the move.

WHERE DOS IT SAY I HAVE TO WHITE 6 MONTHS BEFORE I CAN GET
MY SSI CONNECTED BACK ? JUST BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF COUNTRY FOR 5 YEARS

Your SSI usually will stop if you leave the United States for a full calendar month, 30 consecutive days or more. Resumption of benefits seems to be variable, possibly depending on factors like length of stay outside of the US and the nation you're staying in.

You should work directly with the SSA on this.

Some politicians are proposing drastically cutting SSI by turning the program over to each state and provide a reduced federal contribution, a fixed reduced 'block grant'.

The result will be many cut off right from the start and a only certain amount of new applicants accepted in the future.

Many legitimately disabled with be turned away. Does anyone else find this frightening?

I would say that SSI already is a hybrid program which receives federal funds but which also varies from state to state.

For example, there are several states that do not supplement the federal SSI payment.

Also, Social Security administers SSI for several states including California, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Finally, the majority of states pay and administer their own supplemental payments.

If you have links or details on proposals to change this, that might be useful to folks for analysis.
