Hello.I just want to ask a question and hoping that will receive responses from you .
My grandfather is a Filipino; He migrated to America and became an American Citizen and he is now receiving an SSI. He has an SSS pension in the Philippines, would this affect his SSI?
Effect of foreign pension on SSI payment
SSI is a need based program, and typically other sources of income reduce SSI payments.
Social Security specifically exempts some forms of income (ex. food stamps), but US Social Security benefits are counted as unearned income. I could not see how foreign pensions are counted, but I strongly suspect that they would be counted as unearned income.
You may wish to contact Social Security directly for this.
