How divorce affects survivors benefits
If your divorced spouse dies, you can receive benefits as a widow/widower if the marriage lasted 10 years or longer and you are age 60 or older (or age 50 if you are disabled.)
The only "loophole" I'm aware of is you do not have to meet the length-of-marriage rule if you are caring for a child under age 16.

If you're disabled and worked long enough to qualify, you should look into Social Security disability benefits.

If you're disabled and have low income and few assets, you should look into SSI.
