Medicare before age 65?
Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 years of age and older. However, some disabled people under 65 years of age, and people with end-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure treated with dialysis or a transplant) may also be eligible for Medicare.
Medicare benefits based on retirement do not begin until a person is age 65. If you retire at age 62, you may be able to continue to have medical insurance coverage through your employer or purchase it from a private insurance company until you turn age 65 and become eligible for Medicare.
