My sons father died 2 montha ago. My son is four years old. I was wondering if he would have any rights to social security when his dad only worked maybe 3 jobs his whole life for like 2 weeks tops at each job.. How would I find out?
Survivor benefits for child - parent's work record
You will want to contact the SSA directly to verify, but based on your post, the father may not have had enough work credits to qualify for survivor benefits.
Here is a relevant excerpt :
Up to 10 years of work is needed to be eligible for benefits, depending on the person's age at the time of death. Survivors of very young workers may be eligible if the deceased worker was employed for 1.5 years during the three years before his or her death.
