if you and spouse were separated and you remarried. later the former spouse died. Are you intitled to collect widows benefits from the former spouse, when you retire.
Widows benefits and remarriage
Sounds like your first marriage ended in divorce, and you later remarried.
In general, you cannot receive survivors benefits if you remarry before the age of 60 unless the latter marriage ends, whether by death, divorce, or annulment.
If you remarry after age 60 (50 if disabled), you can still collect benefits on your former spouse's record. When you reach age 62 or older, you may get retirement benefits on the record of your new spouse if they are higher.
Your remarriage would have no effect on the benefits being paid to your children.

widow's benefit
I am receiving a widow's benefit from my husband who died last year. I will be turning 62 this fall. I would like to wait and apply for benefits under my own record when I turn 66 or 70 because the benefit will be higher at that time. Can I do that? Am I required to notify Social Security that I am not going to apply for benefits this fall under my own record?
Thanks for the help.........JRG
Survivor benefits vs. retirement on own work record
I recommend contacting Social Security directly to ensure you get the right information for your particular case.
