2111. What are the general eligibility requirements for SSI?
To be eligible for SSI, you must meet all of the eligibility criteria described in §§2111-2114.
No one (except for converted recipients described in §2109 and §2172) can become eligible for SSI benefits without filing an application.

my niece has a learning disability
hello i'm writing about my niece she has a learnig disability. she has not been able to obtain information from school because it's been 10 years since she was in high school how can she get information .stating that she has a learning problems and can't work.

Depending on your niece's age and work record, she may be able to qualify for disability benefits on her own record. An adult disabled before age 22 may be eligible for child's benefits if a parent is deceased or starts receiving retirement or disability benefits. This is considered a "child's" benefit because it is paid on a parent's Social Security earnings record.

Survivor benefits and college
If you received benefits due to your father's death, it's likely you were receiving Social Security survivor benefits rather than SSI (Supplemental Security Income).

Information - SSI and dependent children
If a person is collecting SSI is he entitled to receive money for a minor child living with him 2 weeks every month? Once the child moves out & changes his address, is this person still entitled to receive a monthly check for his support?
Benefits for children of an SSI recipient
My understanding is there is no such benefit for the children of an SSI beneficiary. Although children may qualify for various benefits on their own, adult SSI recipients don't automatically receive additional benefits for dependent children.

If I am mentally unstable and can recieve SSI I heard that I would recieve checks for my children as well. What I am inquiring is when my children turn 18 are they going to be required to be evaluated by a therapist as well?

i was getting ssi as a kid with help of my mom how can i receive it as an adult i'm mostly deaf and i've been in special education all my life now i don't know what to do.i now have two kids that need me to be able to provide income what can i do when i can't hear and i don't know words with my hands....

Death of father - benefits
If your father died, you may qualify for survivor benefits. To qualify for SSI as a child, one must have a disability.
