Determining if mother is receiving SSI benefits
In general, for privacy reasons, the SSA will not disclose receipt of benefits by another person.
You may wish, however, to look into serving as a Representative Payee for your mother if she needs assistance with her benefits.

In general, the SSA will not accept a "conventional" power of attorney. The SSA prefers you register as a Representative Payee. However, if you have power of attorney and access to your mother's bank and other information, you can confirm the receipt of benefits via direct deposit or other means.
