My husband became disabled at age 37 and we just got married. We are 34 and 42 now. Does he continue to receive SSD and how might this affect our taxes?
Effect of marriage on Social Security disability benefits
Assuming your husband received SSD (work record) and not SSI (means tested) then the marriage will have no effect on Social Security Disability benefits.
Social Security does not have a marriage penalty. A married couple's lifetime earnings are calculated independently to determine their benefit amounts. Therefore, each spouse receives a monthly benefit amount based on his or her own earnings.
Marriage of course affects your income taxes in a number of ways.
