Mother passed away at age 20 didnt have enough credits paid into social security , can child receive benefits from other parent who is living?

You'll want to confirm with the SSA for your particular situation. Are you sure the mother didn't qualify? Under a special rule, the SSA can pay benefits to a child and surviving spouse who is caring for the children even if you don't have the number of credits needed. They can get benefits if you have credits for one and one-half year's work (6 credits) in the three years just before your death.

Otherwise, I'm unaware of other Social Security benefits unless one of the following is true :

  • Child is disabled
  • Surviving parent is disabled
  • Surviving parent is retired
