Applying for retirement benefits from overseas
You currently can NOT apply for benefits online.

Personnel in American embassies or consulates in several countries, and in the SSA Division of the Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Manila, Philippines, are specially trained to take applications for Social Security benefits. The United States Social Security offices near the Canadian border take claims filed by people living in Canada.
For more information on these offices and filing for benefits while you are abroad, see the website "Service Around the World."

Applying for retirement benefits while living abroad
The ssa site made it sound too easy , instead of making a special entry for American Living Abroad and want apply or file for ”list of whatever service available for them” . They made it too cumbersome and take you from link to another and many times take you back to where you originally started, before you get to the point where it says you have to make an appointment with the nearest US embassy and apply in person ….
The site should be made user friendly for all not just for the computer savvy individuals.
