I am going to SS office tomorrow and would like to fill out the application for survivior benefits before I go to the office and take the form with me. May I fill out the form on line and take it with me tomorrow. I will be 60 next month and plan on applying for my Husband's ss he passed in 2006. I am still working and wonder how much I will be taxed making more than 15000 a year. Thank-you
Signing up for survivor benefits
Currently, you can sign up for many benefits (retirement, spousal, disability) online, but survivor benefits are not listed as one of them.
http://www.ssa.gov/onlineservices/#a0=0
To sign up for survivor benefits, you'll need several documents such as death certificate, your birth certificate etc.
http://www.ssa.gov/survivorplan/howtoapply.htm#ht=1
If you are younger than full retirement age during all of 2013, the SSA will deduct $1 from your benefits for each $2 you earned above $15,120 (although you can effectively get it back later at full retirement age).

You may want to delay initiation of survivor benefits, especially while still working, as each month of delay will increase your monthly benefit.
