Dad put my SSa check in a custodial account now that im 22 he still wont give me any of it

Yea my mom died when i was 12 and I guess i was receviing SSA benefit a check with my name and his name on it .. He would put this money in a VAUTMA Account and wouldn't use any of it because we lived with my grandparents and they paid for all my stuff so my dad didnt use any of the ssa on me.. Well i am 22 years old now and that account at one point had $50,000 in it and the last statement i have says there is $28,000 in it.. I know he never spent any of that money on me ,,,

But should the left over money belong to me ?? I was homeless about 6 months ago and he refused to even give me money for a hotel room..

I had to pay taxes on that money since i was 18 and im still not alowed to have it

What should i do please help?

I don't have too much knowledge of this, but it appears you may be able to receive the funds if you're "capable" (ex. a physically and mentally capable adult over age 18).

SSA may permit a former payee (YOUR DAD) to transfer conserved funds directly to a new payee (EX. YOUR UNCLE) or to a capable beneficiary (YOU) rather than returning them to SSA if it serves the best interest of the beneficiary (YOU). SSA will allow such transfers on a case-by-case basis. For guidelines in determining when a direct transfer of conserved funds may be in the best interest of a beneficiary, see GN 00603.055C.
