Marriage, name change

I got married last week (second marriage) and am trying to change my middle name back to my birth middle name. When I married the first time I took my maiden name as my middle name. With the second marriage I want to go back to my birth middle name instead of using my maiden name for my middle name. I went to the DMV to get my licence changed so I can get my SS card changed. They said I can't do it and I had to keep my maiden name as my middle name. Why can't I go back? Is there anything I can do? Can I get a SS card with my preferred birth middle name even though my driver's licence has my maiden name in the middle? (P.S...My birth certificate has a different last (maiden) name since my mom married my step-dad when I was 2 and I never new my biological father until I was 18. My first SS card had my maiden name as my step-dad's last name (which is now my middle name). Compicated...I know! :(

This will vary from state to state, and even county to county, but you should be able to change your name with a court order. What you're requesting is more than a "conventional" name change due to a (first) marriage, so it's not surprising you'd need more than your new marriage license.

Check your county's web site for name change procedures. There may be a fee for that.
