survivor benefits were paid for in my childrens names with me as custodian of accounts..as they reach age eighteen, the remaing childrens benefit amounts totaled less.I was under the impression that the remaining children under eighteen benefits would rise to equal the family max amount......should they have? and what can be done if they havent?
Effect of family maximum on total benefits
You didn't indicate how many children you have, but this sounds normal.
As survivors "graduate" (stop receiving) survivor benefits, the TOTAL paid to ALL the children may drop, but the INDIVIDUAL amount paid to EACH child may rise as total payments fall under the family maximum.
