SSA sent notice of overpayment in early January, which I believe is wrong. I have representative who is handling this now, but no success after 3 weeks through "back channels" (she used to work at SSA). The 30-day limit to file Request for Reconsideration is in one week, but rep says she's confident her contact at SSA will take care of the problem before SSA begins holding back $$ from my check each month, starting in April (this is early Feb.). My rep says we should hold off from filing the Request for Reconsideration. I disagree. I'm losing faith in this rep. I've called some social security lawyers, but they all say they only represent those applying for SSD/SSI for the first time. How do I find a lawyer who will help me with the reconsideration request? I can afford to pay. I'm in New York State.
