I want to marry my girlfriend. I'm a 40 year old male receiving $999/mo SSDI benefits. She's heard stories of people losing their Medicare benefits and part of their SSDI income when they marry. She makes about 24K/yr and I am selfemployed and earn about $2000/yr. Will anything happen to either SSDI or medicare?
SSDI and marriage
You'll want to verify directly with the SSA to verify for your particular case.
Since you mention "SSDI", I assume you mean disability based on a work record. In general, I have not seen a "marriage penalty" for SSDI. However, if you receive SSI, your SSI benefit may be affected by marriage.
