My daughter's father and I were together 5 years before his sudden death on 9/13/11. I had 2 sons when we got together. Are my children and I entitled to survivor's benefits?

This appears to be a gray area and the outcome may vary from state-to-state due to the different way states handle paternity, common-law marriage etc.
