My twin sons were born at 25 weeks and were granted SSI during their hospital stay and therefore they automatically qualified for Medicaid. Once they were discharged and came home we were denied SSI, which we expected; however, we were told that they would still receive Medicaid for an entire year regardless of their SSI status. At the year mark they would be reevaluated. Last week I received a packet in the mail for a review of their eligibility for continued assistance. I have tried to get in touch with the case work and have not heard anything back from her. I am confused as to why we are having to do this at this time. It has not been a year, they were born in March. Is this just a formality? Will they be losing Medicaid? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
One year of Medicaid for baby under SSI
We're not really experts on Medicaid on this site. Also, Medicaid varies from state to state so it'd be best to confer with your local Social Security office, your state Medicaid agency, or your state or county social services office for more information.
