Survivor benefits while in high school
Assuming you are in high school (or equivalent), you should be able to continue receiving Social Security survivor benefits.

If you get survivors benefits and you are in jail and convicted of a crime, your monthly benefits will stop after you remain in jail for more than 30 continuous days following your conviction date. If you are in jail awaiting trial, you will continue to get your check until you are convicted.

School
If I opt for my son to take high school courses on-line, is this still considered attending an "educational institution"? Does the school have to have a certain credentialing for my son to continue receiving benefits? (His father is disabled.) Thank you.

If my 16-year-old begins a part-time job, does this affect his Social Security benefits he receives from his father's disability?
Child Social Security beneficiary and earnings limit
Social Security has an "earnings limit" such that if you earn more than in $14,640 gross wages (in 2012) then the SSA will deduct $1 in benefits for every $2 earned above $14,640.
SSA documents indicate this earnings limit also applies to "child who works and receives benefits on your record."
