My husband is going to be committed for at least 90 days... to the State Mental Hospital in the next few weeks. The way I understand it he will be like a "ward of the state" and his disability check will not continue to come to our home, but will rather go to the State facility. What about the responsibility to his family, rent, bills here, etc. Is there any recourse we can take to see that his family is provided for during this time where he is receiving the help he needs? That is almost $1000 each month that will be taken from our family. Any information would be helpful! Thank you!
Benefit payments when recipient is in mental hospital
People who live in city or county rest homes, halfway houses, prisons or other public institutions usually cannot get SSI.
However, there are some exceptions listed at the following :

You may want to see if your case meets one of the exceptions.
