Moving to another state

My husband and I may be moving to Colorado soon (from MI); we would like my mother to move with us (from WI), but are afraid she will not be able to afford to live there. She has been living off of Social Security and Disability for years because my father severely abused her when they were married (about 3 years), and she has been unable to work since then (she was a nurse). She would love to move with us but apartments out there are around $600/month on the low side, and that would be almost her entire income.
Does anyone know if there would be any way for her to receive enough assistance for her to live in Colorado? She just needs a decent apartment that she can afford. She currently lives with her elderly (70+) parents caring for them, but they are considering moving to MI to be cared for by one of their sons if we end up moving to CO.

You mentioned she's receiving Social Security Disability, but have you looked into SSI?

The SSI program makes payments to people with low income who are age 65 or older or are blind or have a disability.

Whether you can get SSI depends on your income and resources (the things you own).

Social Security does not count all of your income when we decide whether you qualify for SSI. For example, they do not count:

* The first $20 a month of most income you receive;
* The first $65 a month you earn from working and half the amount over $65;
* Food stamps;

Here are some specifics about SSI in Colorado :

She made too much before she became disabled to be eligible for SSI. She was a nurse.
We don't know how we're going to get her over there, because she will need a place to stay once she gets over there and apply for aid, and if she lives with us she will have to include our income etc in her household -even though she plans on moving out separately from us. She only has the disability income, but my husband has a job -his income has nothing to do with her, and she would be paying part of our rent to live with us, but I believe she will have to include his income if she applies for aid while living with us. We just don't know how to get her off on her own feet because she can't just move over there on her own, for she cannot afford the rent.
