Married for 21 yrs to ex husband and then remarried 4 yrs ago to a Canadian citizen. I am now a resident of Canada but still a US citizen. Was told marriage isn't valid in the US until married in the states which we have not done. Can I collect social security off my ex husband?
Benefits on ex-spouse's record after remarriage abroad
I would advise you explore this further, but indications are that you would not be eligible for benefits on ex-husband's record.
If you remarry, you generally cannot collect benefits on your former spouse's record unless your later marriage ends (whether by death, divorce or annulment).
In my limited experience, at least with immigration issues (folks coming to the US), foreign weddings are recognized. I am unsure about how Social Security views foreign weddings, however.
