Went to renew driver's license but told I couldn't because

my name on the driver's license and my social security card don't match. I never did change my maiden name with social security so that's why the names don't match. I was told to bring in a picture id plus my marriage certificate. My marriage certificate is considered too old because it's over 11 years, but yet can't use my driver's license because it's expired, can't use my passport picture ID because that's expired, and I do not have a work ID with a picture on it. So what else do I do?
(Yes, I should have changed my name to begin with, but that's a moot point now, is it not?)

Driver's license procedures vary from state to state. You didn't mention your state, but I would check with the state DMV to see how this may be handled.

I actually had the same problem. The DMV wouldn't even change it despite my having the proper, unexpired (and even extra) documentation listed in their rulebook. After spending about 6 hours bringing in more forms, making 3 or 4 trips, I finally achieved some success by asking them to eliminate my middle name and using my maiden and married names on the license. They couldn't really deny that, as they are both "my" names ( I remembered Hillary Rodham Clinton). Although they wanted me to sign the new license with the last name they wouldn't eliminate, I told them that my legal signature (on all contracts and other documents) is my maiden name. Not "perfect", but easier than going through Court for a formal name change (which I had requested during divorce, but it wasn't spelled out explicitly enough for DMV, even with later Court documents addressing me by maiden name!)
