My x spouse died in august 2010 and my daughter has been living with her Aunt . She now wishes to come to the netherlands to live . Shes 17 now and will be 18 in october . I was told as long as she remains in school she can collect survivors benifits for 3 or 4 more years. Is this So?? But also can she still recieve this if she moves to the Netherlands???
Survivor benefits past age 18
Assuming your daughter is receiving Social Security survivor benefits, this does not sound accurate. Child benefits end at age 18 unless you are disabled or a full-time student attending a secondary (elementary) school, home school, alternate school, General Education Degree program, or online school.

As far as your daughter receiving benefits in the Netherlands, this will most likely be OK until she's age 18. If you are a United States citizen, you can travel or live in most foreign countries without affecting your eligibility for Social Security benefits.

Well she is receiving
Well she is receiving benifits now or her aunt receives this on her behalf. But her " normal education "high school will not be completed. As it stands now she would graduate in May 2014 and she will be 18 on Oct 6 2013. So the question would go to reason that she would still be in school over here untill she finished a high school type of deploma . So would she still qualify for the survivers benifits.
And if so how long can she collect if she wants to further her education. Is there a limit to a 2 year seconary school or a 4 year degree program. And where would i go to report where she is attending school and for how long ..
Thank you .
Survivor benefits beyond age 18
There are no Social Security benefits for children in college who are not disabled.
