My daughter is 9 years old an never received any child support on her. Her father and I was never married. When we went to court over child support they said he does not have to pay anything because he's on ssi. Since he does not have to. Pay and he gets ssi, can I get ssi on my daughter?
SSI and child support
I am not aware of all the facts here, but I will hazard a likely explanation.
For the child's father to qualify for SSI, he must have few assets and little or no income. With no assets nor income, the court is saying he is unable to pay child support -- at least for now.
To be eligible for SSI benefits, a child must be either blind or disabled.
