SSI recipient in Ohio, permanent health and mental health qualifications. No family here. Want to move to Michigan near family. Would I lose benefits and have to reapply there and wait as have been told in past, or is there a way to move without benefit interruption?
SSI benefits and moving to another state
You will want to verify everything before you move.
I could not find anything indicating that at the federal level you would have to re-apply for benefits. You do, however, must notify the SSA of your move.
Many states, including Michigan and Ohio, supplement SSI payments. There is a good chance you would have to re-apply in MI to receive the Michigan supplement.
