I do not know if its SSI or SSD my sons father is on. There is a child support court order through the child support unit, so he is "supposed" to pay child support, just chooses not too anymore! This is why I am looking into whether my son can get child benefits thru his Father....
Garnishing Social Security benefits for child support
It's important to know if the father is on SSI or SSDI. SSI is for folks with limited assets. If the father has two or more vehicles or more than $2,000 in cash (assets) he likely will not qualify for SSI.
If he is on SSDI, those benefits may be garnished for child support purposes.
If, however, he is on SSI, SSI benefits can not be garnished, as presumably SSI is about the only source of income for the person.
